This project aims to enhance food security, health, and income for 7,375 small-holder farmers and their families in Kenya. Through training of 50 staff from 10 local NGOs/CBOs and establishing 10 eco-demonstration farms, we will promote ecological farming practices with locally available solutions. The initiative will reduce costs, improve health with chemical-free produce, and contribute to environmental sustainability, fostering long-term community resilience and sustainable livelihoods.
The problem is the reliance of small-holder farmers in Kenya on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, leading to food insecurity and environmental degradation. Many farmers struggle with poor yields, low incomes, and health issues related to chemical exposure. Local NGOs often lack adequate resources and training to promote sustainable agricultural practices effectively. This cycle results in persistent poverty and food shortages.
This project addresses food insecurity and environmental degradation by training 10 East African NGOs and CBOs in ecological farming techniques. By empowering their staff with practical skills, we enable them to disseminate knowledge to over 500 small-holder farmers, improving their agricultural practices. As a result, we anticipate increased income through reduced costs and greater crop yields, enhanced food security from fresh produce, and improved health from chemical-free foods.
The long-term impact of this initiative is transformative. By empowering 10 East African NGOs/CBOs to train smallholder farmers, we anticipate a sustainable increase in food security, health, and incomes for approximately 7,375 individuals. The ecological farming practices will reduce reliance on harmful chemicals, enhance environmental health, and restore soil fertility by 5%. Additionally, the knowledge gained will be shared widely, reaching over 15,000 potential supporters.
