Boosting Food Security and Health for 7375 Kenyans

Our ecological farming project is still waiting for the funding it needs to launch, but the need it addresses hasn't gone away. Across Kenya, smallholder farmers continue to face rising input costs, depleted soils and unpredictable harvests. Many still depend on chemical fertilizers and pesticides that drain their incomes and put their health at risk.

While we work to close the funding gap, COSDEP keeps supporting farmers through its other programmes. Jane, a farmer in COSDEP's kitchen-farming project, shared what that support has meant to her:

"Through COSDEP's kitchen-farming project I have learned ecological farming and integrated pest management. The training has helped me earn a weekly income from my small farm, which supports my family. What I appreciate most is that COSDEP did not abandon us after training. They keep checking on our progress and introducing new ideas. This has given me confidence and hope for a better future."

Jane's story shows what this project could do at scale. When funding comes in, COSDEP will train 50 staff from 10 local NGOs and CBOs and set up 10 eco-demonstration farms. Those farms will become practical learning centres where farmers can see low-cost, chemical-free methods working on real plots. Over time, this approach can benefit about 7,375 people through better yields, lower costs and healthier food.
