Summary: It has been a slow but steady recovery from the COVID pandemic. School has not completely returned to normal and as is the case in many developing countries the pandemic was late arriving, but it has taken it's told on communities nonetheless. The third shipment of 2200 books has been funded and is being packed for shipment. very little progress can be reported on the temporary school , but this is a good time for repair and preparation. Meanwhile a volunteer teacher has given a good report on the use of past books that were donated.
CSAG 3d Shipment Status; Fall of 2021 – Books for Africa Will be sending out 2200 books to Ghana sometime this fall. The books have been funded thanks to donations and more can be prepared. It's important to get these books sent as soon as possible as the kids need more material when they're doing distance learning. The 3d shipment should arrive sometime this fall.
TEMP Library Books for Kids Ghana and Japanese Embassy Application for New Building - There is no progress in rehabilitating the temporary school house. This would be a great time to rehabilitate this facility because full time schooling has not started. We are hoping that funding will be available to provide furniture and repairs. So far it has been slow getting these activities to begin.
Meanwhile the application from the Japanese embassy for a new schoolhouse has been slow in processing. It seems that everything has been stopped for the COVID pandemic and it has been difficult to get things restarted. We are hopeful that one of these two outcomes can materialize soon to provide the kids a more stable learning environment.
Testimonial Lydia - Footprints Was pleased to receive a unsolicited testimonial from one of our teachers. She is a class 3 English educator it Ghana. Sadly she reports that only two percent of pupils in the lower primary school can read at the expected level. A lack of resources can be a detriment because children's only experience of reading is with their teacher. Also if insufficient numbers of books are available children have to share resources and as anyone knows with two small children this is not always productive. This is why additional shipments of books are so important and why we're working very hard to get more books to Ghana as quick as possible.
