It was my first experience of organising book delivery and a good learning one.
The Maths text books donated by Dore primary school in Sheffield had to be ransported by Air Freight to Kigali.
After a search and advice from a local charity (amigos.org.uk) which works in Uganda we found a good freight company (Excess Luggage Co) who were able to collect the books from Dore & take direct to the Air terminal.ELC was considerably cheaper than others but still it cost nearly £500 to send 76 Kg books to Kigali airport.
Safely delivered but then seemingly lost/misplaced at Kigali. Eventually tracked down by Deri Rundle and transported , by motorbike carrier, to the school.
There is a report and some 'photos on the Rundle Trust website (www.davidrundletrust.co.uk) and will be some video
shortly. I hope to upload them to GlobalGiving in due course.
Our next task, under this GlobalGiving project, is to sort further books from our stocks held on a farm in Torrington, and send relevant books with another Devon based partner charity(book-cycle.org) in their next containerload.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
