BookRelief UK in North Devon have worked in partnership for a number of years with Book-Cycle of Exeter to collect, store and send appropriate used educational and reading books to grassroots projects in sub-Saharan African countries where a selected local project partner ensures, and helps to monitor, their distribution to appropriate beneficiaries.
In much of sub-Saharan Africa, schools and communities are starved of suitable reading material in the form of text books. They desperately need these along with training manuals, reading books and children's books suitable for children and young people of all ages and reading abilities.
By collecting books from local schools and other local donors - storing and selecting for shipment from these a wide range of suitable used text books, training and vocational books, reading books and children's books - and working through our project partners Book-Cycle - with whom we will share shipping space - along with their selected local partners, we will ensure an on-going supply of suitable reading material reaches the children, teachers and parents who will benefit the most from them.
By working with reliable on-the-ground partners to deliver a good and consistent supply of suitable reading material to schools and communities, literacy levels for children and young people in the area will be vastly improved, thus preparing them for a brighter future, with better job prospects and enhanced self-confidence - as well as the ability to pass their skills on to others.
