By Barry Evetts | Project Leader
We have begin this project with a small initial shipment of books from one of our book-storage garages in Northam, Bideford, to our project partner, Book-Cycle's warehouse in Extere from whence the books will find their way to varous projects in Africa.
We would like to thank the Barnstaple-based removals firm Lewis & Sons for their generosity in oroviding the transport for this shipment.
We are also in the process of arranging a meeting with Book-Cycle's management to better ascertain which of their African-based project partners are best suited as initial recipents of the books we will be sending out under ths proogramme.
We expect to have mucch more to report in this respect over the coming weeks and would ask our donors to note that it will take time to get the programme fully off the ground and that with summer holidays in full swing, this is slowing progress down a little.
We are also looking to extend the scope of recipents beyond just children to include local communities as many of the books we have in stock, including Haines's manuals and Readers Digest Condensed Books, these being tried and tested items which are well received by Afican communities in need of reading material for both pleasure and edicational/vocational purposes.
