Imagine a rural student accessing a book only found in well established libraries, Imagine a set of local students coming together to network beyond their schools and district, Imagine a world where these disadvantaged students get to compete favorably with well to do school students, Imagine a rural community whose students thrive on digital knowledge. This is what this project envisages. The SSPP is establishing a book library and digital space at its Regional Office and Multipurpose Center.
Uganda, particularly in Busoga, over 80% of schools have no resourced libraries, with all the local sub county rural schools having no computers and internet. Of all these, including the Universal education schools, little to no efforts are placed in creating such facilities. The SSPP appreciates the burden these schools have in providing the very basic of classroom structures and accommodation. The SSPP also appreciates the need for the students to access all academic facilities.
This project seeks to provide equal opportunity for all responsive local students by providing library facilities and trainings. It seeks to accommodate 20 students a day to use the ICT facility and up to 100 students seeking to read, revise, discuss and be trained by exam facilitators on both their curriculum and non curriculum needs. The SSPP wishes to give space to 200 youth to access the project services at the multipurpose center.
The project will increase overall performance of the students in these rural schools at the national examinations, it intends to increase employability by increasing digital skills amongst these rural students. Increase networking and build research skills among the resource poor perceived communities and youth in Busoga.
