After many weeks of training, we finally have our 7th Children Futsal Jamboree "Healthy Competition, Healthy Choices"! This event has been awaited by all children as the finally have their stage to perform their training. We bring the spirit of competition, friendship, child participation and spread the message to children about fairness in competition and making the right decision for their life. As most of our participant come from marginalized community, we hope the event will encourage children to avoid juvenile and unhealthy behavior such as smoking, drugs abuse, or internet addiction.
In our annual event, the child conference start in September 21, with the theme "Golden Generation without Risky Behavior". Our participants gained new insights about prevention of risky behavior and sexual violence from the STIKES PGI Cikini lecturers. Children speak up about the situation they face in the community and demand for support from parents, local leaders, teachers, and government to protect them, facilitate positive activity in community, and guide them to avoid the unwanted situation. We bring the recommendation to public and government, hoping that they will put attention and willing to take action for children in marginalized community.
After the conference, series of tournament conducted with 4 categories of competition. We have competition for Mixed U-11, Boys U-14, Boys U-17 and Girls U-17. In total, there were 40 teams participated with total of 380 children playing in the tournament. What makes it difference this year is the number of games and involvement of senior children as a referee in mixed U-11 category. There were 128 games played from qualification to finals and so excited to see. Before the tournament, we also prepare training of referee for youth, to practice their leadership. There were 7 youth took role as the referee in U-11 games. Beside the games, we are also glad that there are more sponsors and partners involve in tournament this year, give support in funds and in kinds.
We receive positive feedback about the tournaments from children and their mentors. The tournament increase their self-confidence, team work, and togetherness. Children could reduce their attachment to gadgets because they focus on the match during the competition. This event gives them goals, something really important for children to have. Children admit that it is the time to applied what they have learned through the program, not only about futsal, but also about life skills. They remember how to deal with pressure, making the right decisions, self-regulation, support each others, finding a way out of pressure (problem solving), and establishing a relationship with God. We are so proud with these chidlren. Sports really taught them a lot of things.
Let's make sports a meaningful support for children. Thank you so much for your donation, together, we can make the world better.
