Challenge

The Coastal waters of Sierra Leone, particularly in areas surrounding Freetown have become severely polluted due to continuous dumpling of plastic waste, untreated sewages and and industrial runoff.Decades of inadequate waste management infrastructure,combined with rapid urbanization and weak environmental enforcement ,have resulted in the accumulation of toxic debris and microplastics in the marine ecosystem.

Solution

The project aims to launch a comprehensive ocean clean up and Marine conservation initiative by combining community led beach cleanups,waste recycling programs, educational programs, educational campaigns,and policy advocacy to reduce ocean bound waste and rehabilitate the Marine environment in Sierra Leone.

Long-Term Impact

There will be reduced marine pollution due to reduce in Toxic materials in coastal ways Ecosystem recovery: healthier habitats for Marine species such as fish, turtle,coral reefs. Improved water quality Green jobs: new employment in recycling waste collection and conservation create job opportunities for the youths and this will reduce drug and substance use which is very prevalent among youths in Sierra Leone. Reduced disease risk due to clean water systems. Community ownership.
