Project Report
| Dec 13, 2022
DOHS activity since August 15, 2022
In the US:
During the reporting period, the only money we raised was through our GlobalGiving webpage for this project, $247.85 (after payment of GG's share).
In West Darfur State, Sudan:
Our board continues to receive updates from our team, from whom we learn that a great many displaced persons remain in Kereneik Town and also in the state capital of El Geneina, about eighty miles to the west. Heavy flooding continues in both places.
Two of the West Darfur DOHS team report to us from Kereneik Town itself that:
local shelters are not water resistant,
there is not enough medicine or medical care,
water is not safe to drink,
malaria and respiratory illnesses are common,
there are many children, elderly and sick here, and
displaced continue to shelter in government centers, schools and market areas.
The DOHS team consult with Kereneik community leaders and individual displaced persons, noting that their most requested items are: blankets, sleeping mats and mosquito nets.
In addition to those requested items, the board will also consider setting up additional restrooms at the schools serving as shelters in Kereneik Town, and also paying for two meals per person for displaced in the El Geneina area.
According to the US government's "USAID Sudan - Complex Emergency Fact Sheet, December 2, 2022" report, flooding, insecurity, malaria, food shortages, other disease outbreaks (dengue fever, Hepatitis E) are major problems in Sudan now (1).
Flooding has affected 349,000 nationwide, security deteriorated thought most of 2022, and was concentrated in Darfur, among other places (ibid).
Please consider donating to us so that the staff of DOHS may continue to help their people.
