DOHS will use your donations to buy --in El Geneina, Darfur-- blankets, food, sleeping mats and tarpaulins for people displaced by the attacks on Misterei town on July 25, 2020, and by the attacks on the Kerending camps in late December 2019. Two of our members are on-site with them in El Geneina, where displaced must sleep on the ground, do without food and suffer cold and weather at the peak of the Sudanese rainy season. DOHS has already given blankets and mats to many families there.
The Board and membership of DOHS are from Darfur, Sudan. On July 25, 2020 the town of Misterei, West Darfur State was attacked, displacing tens of thousands, many to the state capital of El Geneina. People ran a way with nothing in their hands and they have nowhere to go. Right now some are staying in schoolrooms and some are staying on school grounds. They have nothing to sleep on or with which to cover themselves in the rain and cold.
Your donations will be administered by the DOHS Board in the US and our members in El Geneina; it will be used to buy food, tarpaulins, mats, blankets from El Geneina businesses. So your money will both help the displaced and the local economy. Many of the displaced from the Kerending camps attacks in late December 2019 and Misterei city have fled to EL Geneina. This project was first set up to help those from Kerending, but has been expanded to include those from Misterei.
Blankets, tarpaulins, food and mats protect against exposure and the illnesses that often come with it. With health comes more ability to plan and act. Also, since DOHS is buying these mats and blankets in El Geneina, West Darfur State, Sudan, your money helps the local economy. Our contacts on-site have told us the displaced suffer from rain and cold, particularly the senior people and the children, especially at night since they have no place to sleep and nothing to cover themselves.
This project has provided additional documentation in a PDF file (projdoc.pdf).
