Despite Yearly Flooding there is Still No Place like Home

Phitsanulok experienced significant flooding throughout October 2025, with conditions persisting in several districts, though water levels were generally reported as decreasing by the end of the month.

However, in the Subdistrict of Wang Thong, which is located in the lower northern part of Thailand, is topographically flat plains. That being the case, this area is prone to yearly floods sometimes lasting months, or when there is a run off from the mountain ranges such as Khao Samo Khlaeng and Khao Fa etc. The River Wang Thong flows through this subdistrict which also lies in the Nan River basin, which is part of the Chao Praya Watershed.

Our Volunteer who also resides in Wang Thong district will alert our Foundation, when the situation is potentially going to  become a crisis..

This year she identified 15 families who live in the low-lying district and alerted our Foundation of the  help that they need. These included a number of families with the elderly, some of whom live alone, that when floods arrive they literally are unable to access local markets as they may not have any boats, or even if they had, did not have the strength to row them to the market places.

Thus, when our Volunteer arrived with bottled water, and neccessities like dry food, eggs and even rice paks, they were very thankful.. " Thanks so much , my daughter, this will certainly help me pass through the difficult days ahead, " said Aunty D (not her real name). The elderly were grateful, as most of them live from hand to mouth.

Yet, despite the hassles and hardship that these residents have to go through each year from the floods, they still continue to stay where they are, because it has been their homes since their ancestors. Others, due to poverty, are unable to do move to higher grounds.
