Ministering to Residents in Doi Chang
To most people in Thailand, when Doi Chang is mentioned, it conjures up an aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Known for an area good for coffee growing now, it was not so decades ago. H.M. King Bhumibhol Adulyadej Rama 9, was the one who initiated Royal Projects to encourage hilltribe farmers to plant winter crops instead of cash crops like opium, which was destroying families and societies.
Just like the steep slopes in Doi Chang, this process was slow and tedious. Hilltribes who lived in poverty there, used to arrange early marriages for their daughters so that the families may have a better life. Nancy (not her real name) was one such person. To escape her fateful destiny, she decided to run away from home.
To cut a long story short, she was eventually helped by a kind American lady who helped her with her education and enabled her to become a teacher.
Despite her sad beginnings, she never forgot her home village and those who live there. Our Foundation had the privilege of getting to know her and worked with her in her school.
To help bless those in her home village, a team of volunteers went with her to visit the villagers and residents living there. We visited some of the elderlies there, and organised a fun program for the kids and the seniors, and even had the opportunity to join in a festive celebration with the villagers there.
"Thank you so much for bringing joy to my home village here" Nancy beamed with satisfaction as she helped translate from Lisu language to Thai, as the team was communicating to the villagers.
Along the same grain, our Foundation for Life also would like to thank all donors for your sacrificial giving.
