Quarterly Report – February 2026

Project: Birthday Tree Planting Project

Project ID: #58012

Since our last report

TAJPI has advanced the Birthday Tree Planting Project by consolidating school-based ecological action and strengthening its long-term climate governance strategy. Building on collaboration with 20 secondary schools in Same and Mwanga Districts, we transitioned from event-based mobilization to structured ecological literacy and accountability systems. Students continue to plant and care for indigenous and fruit trees linked to their birthdays, while Environmental Clubs have formalized monitoring routines to improve tree survival and stewardship within school compounds.

This quarter, TAJPI also participated in the Post-COP30 Multi-stakeholder Forum in Dar es Salaam under the theme “Localizing Global Climate Commitment.” Our engagement focused on translating global climate agreements into measurable district-level action, particularly youth participation and climate accountability. In addition, we contributed to the launch of WWF Tanzania’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, aligning the Birthday Tree Movement with broader national restoration, biodiversity, and climate resilience priorities. These platforms strengthened our institutional capacity to connect grassroots tree planting with policy implementation and long-term environmental governance.

As a result, the project is evolving from a symbolic birthday campaign into a structured ecological literacy program with defined five-year targets: scaling to 200 schools, planting 100,000 trees with a minimum 75% survival rate, and integrating climate education into school systems. Community acceptance continues to grow, especially in rural areas where woodlots improve school environments and reduce pressure on natural forests. We remain grateful to our GlobalGiving donors and local partners whose support sustains this work. Each tree planted represents both environmental restoration and the formation of a generation committed to climate responsibility.
