Join us for a night of BIPOC storytelling!

By Maaman Rezaee | Grants Manager

Dear Donors,

Thank you for making another exciting chapter of the BIPOC Sci-Fi Screenwriting Lab possible with your support!

Over the past months, six fellows have been working closely with mentors from Justice for My Sister through one-on-one workshops to write their original television pilot scripts. With individualized feedback, writers have strengthened their craft, refined their characters, and built worlds that focus on joy and prosperity for people of color through Afro-futurism and Indigenous-futurism.

The next milestone for this cohort is their public table read on July 22 from 6:00–8:00 PM, where fellows will direct actors to read excerpts from their scripts. This experience allows writers to hear their work performed aloud, receive feedback from their peers, community and industry professionals and make valuable industry connections.

If you’re interested in attending the tableread, register at this link.

Your support has also helped us increase opportunities for the Lab alumni, beyond script development. This spring, Justice for My Sister launched the inaugural Short Film Launchpad, an initiative designed to help our alumni transform original stories into portfolio-ready films.

The film produced through the program, MoleGuan, was co-written by BIPOC Sci-Fi Screenwriting Lab alum Jacqueline G, who also stepped into the director's role. The project showcases the pathway Justice for My Sister makes possible, from developing an original script, to receiving mentorship, to leading a production. The production also created paid opportunities for alumni from multiple Justice for My Sister programs to work together as producers and crew members.

At a time when opportunities for emerging filmmakers are limited, your support is making this work possible. Thank you for believing in the power of authentic storytelling!

Please consider visiting our page and increasing your support.

With gratitude,

Justice for My Sister
