Hello lovely donors!
The Justice for My Sister (JFMS) team wishes you well. We are always appreciative of your generous support of our programs that empower filmmakers and creatives of color. The second cohort of the BIPOC Sci-Fi Screenwriting Lab wrapped up on January 24th. The cohort noted how incredibly supportive the environment created by the Lab was and what a joy it was to convene every week and have a safe place to practice their art.
Because of your support, JFMS was able to offer six of our BIPOC Sci-Fi Lab participants a 10-week mentorship extension program. They will receive 1-on-1 mentorship from a leading film industry professional to shape the concepts they developed in the lab into fully fleshed out drafts of their pilot episode. These drafts will then be submitted to one of our partner organizations, The Blacklist, for evaluation and feedback as well as 2 months of free hosting on the org’s website.
You directly contributed to the growth of this year’s Fellows and helped bring them guest speakers, mentorship, and an extensive support network that will extend far beyond our zoom rooms. To read more about the Fellows you helped support during their screenwriting journey visit: https://www.justiceformysister.org/bipocscifilabcohort2
Now that the Lab has wrapped up, JFMS will be starting a Video Diaries workshop series to help folks document their personal stories through documentaries and video poems. Later this month, we will also be announcing a very special Production Assistant Certification Program. You have made it possible for us to continue expanding our services to underrepresented artists in the TV and Film industry.
We are hopeful in our ability to open the BIPOC Sci-Fi Screenwriting Lab to a third cohort later in the year. We are excited to keep in touch with you all as our programs and community expands.
With love and solidarity,
Kimberly Bautista
