As we have mentioned in our previous report – our students had gone to summer biology field trip. Today I would like to tell you about the results of this trip.
All 10 days of the trip we had a very intense program. We lived in a summer house in a village. We went on excursion to the forest, where we studied birds, mushrooms, plants and animal tracks. One of the days we went into the forest and stayed there over night - we lived as true hikers - cooked over a fire, lived in tents and heated the Russian banya (sauna). Also we’ve visited a woman in Ugory village who makes Russian dolls, also we went to Makariev city where we’ve visited museum of local lore.
In our house we organized our everyday life by ourselves. Each participant was on duty to prepare food. Also each student chose a topic for research and prepared a presentation. Murad collected mushrooms in the forest. Olga studied medicinal herbs, Teia - Red Book plants, Vlad - animal tracks, Igor - birdsong. These were completely new topics for the guys. It was invaluable experience for the children who have grown up in closed institutions and never been in such field trips before.
Here are some feedbacks from our students:
Vlad N.: "This trip was memorable for the way Mr.Kuvshinskiy (teacher of “Big Change”) told us about the birds, about the beauty of their singing. Also I remember our two-day hike to the forest with tents - I had the opportunity to chop firewood and make a fire. All this, I think, will help me later in life. And anyway, the whole trip was very important for me!"
Olga F.: "It's amazing how memorable were the fields and forests! And how amazing it was to go on wet moss, and to see berries... In those places the air smells different, it is different. The place is amazingly beautiful! There, I had a little time to enjoy the beauty of these wonderful places because we did not need to hurry. it's unforgettable!”
Also I heartily thank each of you for participation on bonus day of GlobalGiving – we’ve collected in total with the bonus from Globalgiving 5980$! It’s a great result, thank you very much for that!
