Inflation, insecurity, drought, floods and even hailstorms have presented further challenges for vulnerable people in our partner communities since our last report. Occasionally we’ve had to provide emergency relief to ensure people don’t go hungry, but this project is largely focussed on helping the most vulnerable people to overcome the poverty, isolation, and powerlessness that combine to make their lives difficult - in the long term.
Poverty often leads into despair, and your support has enabled vulnerable people, mostly living with disabilities or HIV, across Kenya and Uganda to avoid such despair by establishing enterprises to earn an income to meet their families’ basic needs. As these pictures show, the enterprises include tree nurseries, market stalls, garment-making, poultry, pig and goat rearing. Your kind donations enable disadvantaged men and women to learn new skills from local experts and then receive inputs such as livestock, water tanks, tools and raw materials with which to start their activities. Our monitoring shows that more than 90% of these enterprises are still running and contributing to the family economy and well-being one year later.
Thank you for your help in enabling vulnerable families in East Africa to find pathways out of poverty so that they can access the food, education and healthcare they need.
Please consider donating to the project on Giving Tuesday, 28th November to attract matched funding for even more impact. Thank you so much!
