Reforestamos developed an initiative to plant and monitor trees in degraded forests during 3 years, ensuring the survival of 80% of the trees planted, improve the livelihood of local communities by generating jobs and increase forest awareness among urban people, which derives in better private and public political will to develop initiatives for the benefit of protected and unprotected forests.
Forests in Mexico face different challenges that make them vulnerable, causing deforestation and degradation of their ecosystems due to problems such as fires, illegal logging, changes in land use and the expansion of urban areas. The sustainability of forests and the ecosystem services that they provide to the communities that inhabit them and to the large cities near them are put at risk.
The project helps the conservation and good management of forest lands in protected natural areas, ensuring that forests provide ecosystem services, retain soil, water and capture carbon.
