In the Couffo region of Benin (Africa), village schools are often substandard and in disrepair. They lack basic resources such as water, sanitary latrines and sturdy desks. Many students face barriers to enrollment because they cannot afford a uniform, school supplies, or the required birth certificate. Their parents lack the means to pay school fees. Your support can provide these essentials and give them a real chance at education.
In Couffo, a rural region of Benin, students risk not completing their education due to a lack of supplies, uniforms, food, documents and fees required for registration. The schools in their villages lack basics such as water or sanitary latrines. The buildings and desks are often in disrepair and the students have limited access to food during the school day. There are few amenities like libraries, sports fields or computer access in their high schools.
To address this situation, we organize an annual fundraiser. These funds are allocated to nearly 30 participating schools to use to support students and improve school infrastructure. Students receive school supplies, uniforms, documents to enter school, and funding for their school canteens. In addition, we respond to requests for capital improvements such as desk and building repairs, latrines and water projects. Other projects have included a basketball court, computer lab and library.
On page 25 of PLAN SECTORIEL DE L'EDUCATION 2018-2030 DU BENIN, it is stated: "Despite its progress, Benin is still ranked 166th out of 177 countries in the world." When all students receive a proper education, it will mark the beginning of development, and the educated will find ways to easily educate their offspring. Each generation will support the next, creating a cycle of continuous improvement.
