Bellydance classes in UK hospices and cancer units

Bellydance classes in UK hospices and cancer units

We are so grateful for your support over the past few months. Thanks to you we have been able to provide bellydance sessions in a rural hospice in the UK, giving much needed joy, laughter and gentle exercise, not only to women with cancer, but to carers and bereaved relatives too.  Everyone has enjoyed them enormously and several women commented that they hadn't had so much fun for ages.

We have also been approached to provide some sessions for an organisation providing support to women with mastectomies and we are really looking forward to helping these women get back in touch with their bodies in a positive way, as well as boosting their sense of femininity and sensuality.

As well as the fundraising we have done here on GlobalGiving, we've had wonderful support from the UK bellydance community who have been organising fundraising events for us. In fact we have decided to retire this project on GlobalGiving, and concentrate our efforts on fundraising within the dance community, so that we don't spread ourselves too thinly.

Our GlobalGiving fundraising continues on our larger project for victims of domestic violence, rape, war and slavery, so please do consider supporting our work on that project. Just follow the link below if you would like to donate.

Thank you once again - we couldn't do anything without you!

Thanks to you, and all our generous donors, we're now 10% towards our goal of raising £5,000 towards our dream of providing bellydance classes in hospices. We still have quite a way to go, but last month we were thrilled to be able to provide a taster session in a local hospice in rural Kent.

Not only patients, but bereaved relatives were able to experience the fun of bellydance and to share the joy of dancing together. A bereaved relative said, "It was so much fun, I've not laughed like that or moved like that in such a long time!  What a boost"

And a patient said: "It was so lovely to meet such interesting people and although I was very nervous to start with, I felt much more relaxed when we were all laughing and enjoying the dancing."

It's so uplifting to hear of the happiness women feel when they are bellydancing and to be able to help take their minds of everything they are going through, even for a short time.

We really would love to be able to provide more, so we please do keep supporting us - if you could tell your friends and family about our work, or even better, consider setting up a small regular donation that would be wonderful.

With very best wishes
