March 2021 Update
We are very grateful to everyone who supported the #BelieveHer campaign; we received 70 pledges including some recurring contributions. Most importantly we thank you for helping us kickoff a conversation and continuing it amongst your networks on the importance of ending a culture that enables Gender Based Violence, especially sexual violence against women.
In addition to your financial and messaging support, our campaign benefited from being highlighted by the Global Citizen organization as one of the selected actions for individuals to take a pledge to #BelieveHer during the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence. If you have not had a chance to do so, please take a pledge at www.wise4afrika.org/believeher to #StartByBelieving women.
#IBelieveHer is an ongoing campaign to combat the silence that enables sexual violence against women and to create a culture of support towards victims and survivors.
In addiiton, during this period, the Wise Legal Team has been at the forefront of “publicly profiled” rape cases defending a young woman in an assault case against popular musicians; and joining a Constitutional Court case that seeks to demand accountability from the national police for their failure to protect a rape victims. In addition, we also joined a High Court case on state abuse of power in a domestic dispute matter. Your support enables us to represent women, overturning the historic disadvantage they’ve experienced in their efforts to access justice while also building feminist jurisprudence.
Once again thank you for your generosity which enables us to raise awareness about GBV while also challenging the laws and systems that perpetuate inequality.
