We invite you to #StartByBelieving women when they say they have been sexually abused and to #FundTheFight so we may support victims and survivors in their journey to access justice through criminal and civil justice systems.
In South Africa over 60% of sexual assaults are not reported. Few victims report their sexual assault, so they often don't get the help they need, this means perpetrators enjoy impunity and may offend again thus victimizing even more people. Victims/survivors of sexual abuse deserve to be treated with compassion, starting by believing them and committing to assisting them in their journey towards justice and healing.
Wise 4 Afrika offers direct support to vicitms/survivors of gender based violence by providing legal and other support in their quest for justice. In prosecutor-led cases, we support the victim/survivor through the process, including but not limited, through filing a Watching Brief with the courts to monitor the case. In addition, we provide legal representation in lodging civil and criminal complaints on behalf of women who have been abused, individually and as a class.
Wise 4 Afrika is making an impact towards ending the impunity currently enjoyed by most perpetrators of violence against women. In addition, we are restoring women's faith in the justice system while supporting their fight to demand their constitutional right to safety. Judgements such as denial of bail to those accused of perpetrating violent crimes as well as issuing of tough sentences are expected to be a further deterrence for those intending to commit these crimes.
