As 2016 comes to an end, we are pleased to share highlights of our successes over the last year:
450 children and youth with disabilities participated in 24 summer camp sessions. The campers, led by volunteer counselors, spent five days away from home participating in a variety of educational and fun activities. During the summer camps, approximately 500 volunteers between the ages of 21-40 took time off of work and left their families to put their heart and soul into the summer camps.
We dedicated our new day center for adults aged 21-35 with physical disabilities. This program takes place at our center in Herzliya and provides a rehabilitation framework for these adults who otherwise have few options for how to spend their days.
We opened a branch in Wadi Ara specifically for Arabic-speaking youth. In a very short period of time, our professional staff and volunteers began operating activities for over 30 children and youth and many others are waiting for us to expand our activities in the region.
Beit Al-Amal, our branch serving the Bedouin population in the south of Israel, moved to a bigger location in Be’er Sheva allowing the provision of services and activities for 70 youth with disabilities and their families.
In December 2016, we held our first weekend Shabbat activities for a group of young Haredi women at the Jerusalem branch.
Volunteers donated over 160,000 hours of their time, and for the first time, we won the Welfare Ministry’s award for volunteer service.
