Silent Heroes recently provided scholarship funding for 8 participants of the Amboseli community to train in making elephant dung paper, as an ecotourism resource to strengthen the human-animal elephant bond in the region.
Participants traveled to Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary on the coast of Kenya, where they trained in all aspects of the paper-making process.
The participants aim to introduce this skill to their local community, and will begin an elephant dung paper initiative later this year. is a community-owned sanctuary found in Mwachinga Village, Kinango constituency, Kwale County. The village comprises two main tribes: Adigo, who are farmers; and Aduruma, who are pastoralists.
We look forward to keeping you posted, and will let you know when the paper products will be ready for purchase. Stay tuned, and much gratitude for your support!
