Dear Friends,
We often think that small fractions do not really count. For example, what can 0.05% achieve? The chances may seem to range from nothing to not much. But this is not the case with the Baseeta project.
Last month, based on our request, our Baseeta partner bank, Banque du Caire, installed another ATM in Mattay to increase access to banking services for the 178 Baseeta mothers who live in the area.
Mattay is one of 800 towns and villages where Baseeta works across Egypt. Before Baseeta, Mattay had only one ATM serving the entire population of the city.
You may wonder, “Why is this worth mentioning? It’s just another ATM, right?”
Let me tell you: for 178 widowed and single mothers, this ATM is a lifeline, providing access to their pensions and financial assistance from Coptic Orphans. But the impact goes further. This ATM does not benefit just the Baseeta mothers; it also serves the entire population of Mattay, which totals 332,212 people (CAPMAS,2023).
Baseeta has gone beyond directly educating women in financial skills to increasing public services for the entire community—and potentially even for neighboring cities! Who knew that by helping just 0.05% of the population learn to use banking services, we could meet a need for everyone in an entire city in Egypt?
Thank you for your continued support and donations to Coptic Orphans. Because of you, this small beginning is growing into something much greater.
