Honour Dr Anne's legacy. Relieve suffering. Restore dignity. Across Uganda and Africa, people with cancer and serious illness suffer without basic pain relief; fewer than 15% access palliative care. Your donation helps Hospice Africa Uganda provide pain relief, train health workers, and reach underserved families. Dr Anne believed that no one should have to live or die in pain.
In Uganda, thousands of people living with cancer and serious illnesses live with severe pain. Fewer than 15% of those who need palliative care receive it. Patients suffer, in fear and distress, while families helplessly watch. There is also a shortage of healthcare workers trained in Palliative Care, and the safe provision of pain relief for the seriously ill. This suffering is preventable. Yet it continues, stripping people of dignity and comfort at the most vulnerable time in their lives.
Building on the legacy of the late founder, Dr Anne Merriman, this project will expand access to Palliative Care by funding vital pain relief, including oral liquid morphine, for those who need it most. The morphine is the key to managing pain, and providing relief. The project will also train healthcare workers, strengthen local capacity, and reach underserved communities, ensuring patients and families receive compassionate care that relieves suffering and restores dignity.
This project will help Hospice Africa Uganda reach thousands more critically ill patients with compassionate palliative care, including pain relief. Becoming a Pain Stopper will help control pain, train healthcare workers, and reach more patients in need in areas currently not served with palliative care. Into the future more patients will live and die with dignity, and their families will feel supported. This project will carry forward the vision of Anne Merriman for generations to come.
