Sport improving life outcomes for Malawian youth

Now in its third year of operation, Youth Sport Trust International’s Beckwith International Leadership Development (BILD) programme in Malawi is having a hugely positive impact on the lives of thousands of young people in rural Lilongwe.

This was witnessed firsthand on a recent monitoring visit by a Trustee and the Managing Director which provided the opportunity to see every level of the programme in action:

• National Trainers leading the training of a new cohort of Local Trainers
• Young Sports Leaders organising a festival of activities for children at Chikutu Primary School
• Met the key stakeholders who make up the programme’s Advisory Group
• Presented an award to a Young Sports Leader who has set up her own business making and selling sausages

The BILD Malawi programme is currently on track to reach its intended targets:

• 70 practitioners upskilled as local trainers
• 79 young people trained as sports leaders
• 183 festivals of activity delivered to 14,324 children.
