Looking Good and Feeling Better

By Lesley Morris | Operations Manager

Since our last update, we have held another of the series of workshops in which we support young people, on their cancer journey to tune in to their new body, deal with scarring, hair loss, and changes in body shape. Helping to rebuild confidence around body image

This time, we headed to a totally new venue, and were totally spoilt as we went to Belgravia at the beautiful COMO Halkin Hotel. Our room had a ceiling of glass receptacles filled with spices forming wave-like contours! The setting made everyone feel relaxed and very much looked after as we opened the cosmetic bags which were tailored to the needs of the individuals and their skin, and went through a beauty and skincare masterclass.

Throughout the day, we could feel the confidence rising as we chatted, had lunch and were joined by a couple of volunteers who came to talk us through how we can incorporate massage, essential oils and well-being into our everyday lives, if it’s right for us and where we are in treatment.

At the end of the day, we received some amazing feedback that helped to demonstrate that we achieved what we set out to achieve at the beginning of the day

"the workshop has given me the opportunity to get out, and do something fun and help me feel more confident". Leana, 17, Brain Tumour

"It helped me to feel beautiful again, and to learn how to use make up like I've always wanted to. It gave me a supportive environment in which I was able to try new stuff without being afraid of being judged....Laughing with new friends, talking to the team and the volunteers and looking gorgeous after applying make up" Amanda, 22, Hypoplastic MDS
