Fight DR Congo Epidemics: Ebola, Cholera, Mpox

Challenge

The DRC faces a major health crisis from concurrent Ebola, cholera, and mpox epidemics, making prevention difficult. The main problem is that current interventions are severely blocked by armed conflict and mass displacement. Additionally, prevention is stalled by the total lack of a vaccine for the active Ebola strain, poor water sanitation in overcrowded camps, critical vaccine shortages, and widespread community mistrust that fuels resistance against emergency health measures.

Solution

This project solves the problem by deploying a rapid, localized prevention framework. It uses repurposed polio health teams to conduct aggressive contact tracing and counter misinformation with community-led risk communication. To stop cholera, the project installs emergency water and sanitation infrastructure in displacement camps. Finally, it secures regional borders with tight screening networks and accelerates targeted mpox vaccine rollouts to protect youth despite ongoing conflict.

Long-Term Impact

The project builds a resilient healthcare system capable of preventing future outbreaks. Installing clean water infrastructure permanently breaks the cholera cycle in vulnerable zones. Establishing community-led communication networks builds lasting trust to eliminate medical resistance. Finally, training local teams in rapid contact tracing and border screening creates a permanent defense system, securing health and economic stability in the DRC and protecting the wider region.
