For a Moment, I was in the Future

By Charles Githu & Elizabeth Waichinga | Fundraising and Communication Department

"My name is JG, and I like computers.

When I grow up, I want to build things that people have never seen before. Maybe robots. Maybe video games. Maybe something that can help doctors make people better.

But sometimes when you are in the hospital, a lot of these dreams start to feel very far away.

Then one day, something exciting happened.

The Faraja team told us we were going to visit my dream big tech company. I had never been inside a place like that before. I imagined huge computers, glowing screens, and people building amazing things.

When we arrived, everything looked like the future.

But the best part was that they didn’t just show us things, they let us try them ourselves.

First, we saw a machine that could make objects out of nothing. They called it 3D printing. I watched as it slowly created something layer by layer. It felt like watching magic happen.

Then we made our own pin badges, choosing designs that showed who we are. Mine had a small lightning bolt because I like things that move fast.

There was also virtual reality, which was my favorite part. When I put on the headset, it felt like I had stepped into another world. For a few minutes, I wasn’t thinking about hospital visits or medicine. I was exploring.

There was music too, and art. We painted and talked about what we want to become one day.

The grown-ups said these activities help with healing. I think they’re right.

Because that day reminded me of something important.

That even though I’m still getting treatment, my dreams are still alive.

And maybe one day, I’ll be the one building the future."
