The Quiet Power of Showing Up

By David Makumi | Chief Executive Officer

Crafts for Cure: Hands and hearts in motion

Dear Friend,

As we cross the halfway mark of 2025, I have found myself reflecting on the quiet power of simply showing up — again and again — and the extraordinary impact that your generosity has made possible.

In just the first six months of this year, together we have:

  • Supported 126 children and adult by providing financial assistance for their cancer treatment at a cost of Kshs 10,180,981
  • Delivered 11,924 packets of milk and 11,485 apples to children in the hospitals.
  • Engaged 416 parents through psychosocial support groups and caregiver education.
  • Welcomed 489 children to music therapy sessions at KNH
  • Hosted weekly Zumba sessions for an average of 35 teenagers and 20 caregivers at Shoe4Africa.
  • Offered diversional therapy — including crocheting and knitting — to an average of 62 children, teenagers, and young adults, along with 40 caregivers.
  • Provided over 2,000 educational workbooks to children in hospitals, enriching their hospital experience.
  • Supported 993 individuals through peer groups that foster connection, resilience, and healing.
  • Offered complementary therapies — including physiotherapy, lymphatic drainage, and art therapy — to over 743 people, bringing comfort, dignity, and holistic care.

These numbers are powerful. But it is the human moments behind them that truly matter: A child painting for the first time, a parent finding strenghth in a support circle, a teenager proudly completing a crotched bag, a nurse decompressing after a long day and a doctor finding calm through a psychological debrief.

Thank you for standing with us and believing that every child deserves to be seen, soothed, and supported-not just medically but emotionally and holistically.

With heartfelt gratitude,
David Makumi - CEO
