With great treasure comes great responsibility.
A country blessed with rich and eclectic marine biodiversity, the Philippines houses what is dubbed the ‘Amazon of the Seas’ or the center of the center of marine biodiversity. This is the Verde Island passage. Indeed, a treasure that holds great importance not just due to its shore fish abundance but also because of its strategic economic location, the passage unfortunately faces significant environmental challenges and risks.
As such, the ABS-CBN Foundation perseveres to empower and involve citizen scientists in the surrounding area of the VIP in developing scientific research and enhancing public awareness through encouraging active participation from all sectors of society in promoting sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
In 2024, the foundation was able to train 20 community Citizen Scientists in Lobo, Batangas. It completed Phase 3 Workshops on Mangrove and Seagrass Monitoring and had an additional 38 mangrove points and 72 additional seagrass points garners in Phase 3.
In the foundation, we believe that there is an innate “eco-warrior” in everyone.
Thank you for supporting our efforts in uniting and empowering communities and stakeholders to become guardians of our environment!
