While being renowned for its rich biodiversity, the Philippines faces significant environmental challenges. This is compounded by a shortage of scientists and limited community engagement in conservation efforts, placing the country's unique ecosystems and public health at considerable risk. To address these challenges, inclusive and long-term solutions are essential. This involves fostering scientific research, enhancing public awareness, and encouraging active participation from all sectors of society to promote sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
Through Bantay Kalikasan, and through the help of donors like you, we continue to build Citizen Scientists in the communities within the Verde Island Passage. Citizen Scientists are key to the protection of the center of marine biodiversity in the world. Through reef, mangrove, and seagrass monitoring workshops, locals are empowered as citizen scientists to protect their surrounding marine communities. With the help of low cost but accurate equipments, these local stakeholders are now able to gather critical data on the health of their marine ecosystems.
