The Health & Wellness program helps pregnant women & breastfeeding mothers & their babies by providing nutritional supplements & vitamins, ensuring proper health. We also advocate for sick children who need care they cannot readily receive for reasons such as cost of care (pay-before-treatment), availability of care (some hospitals are not "code" standard), & accessibility to hospitals. We also provide education on nutrition & development for the entire family. Helping one, helps everyone.
A visit to a physician in Haiti is not as simple as consulting a healthcare provider to find an in-network doctor. Getting there is not as easy as hopping a bus at the cost of a single zone fare. Moreover, paying for the visit often means going without other necessities, like food or rent. Families find themselves making choices based on the most important need at that moment & often, cannot make a decision based on long-term benefits due to poverty. Even small donations give access to care.
By providing a pregnant mother access to prenatal vitamins & nutritional care/education, newborns have a better opportunity for healthy birth & lifestyle. This will also ensure more birth mothers live through childbirth. Providing newborns & growing toddlers with vaccinations, treatments, & care needed at the head of developmental stages or the onset of illness, they will have an opportunity to grow with a resilient immune system. Every family member will benefit from healthy of mother & child.
There are 43 families enrolled in our programs. At least 10 of those families receive care through the Health & Wellness program. As mother & child grow & thrive, other members of the home/community have the opportunity to learn & benefit from their experience with nutritional health. For caregivers of newborns without a birthmother in the home, we provide additional education on maintaining the health of the baby as he grows without breastmilk. 43 families in 5 communities = hundreds served.
