Last week has been crazy, the worst ever unimagined disaster struck Chennai leaving people marooned in water. Many homes got destroyed with thousands hungry and homeless and couple of people lost their lives too. The complete city came to a standstill when the power supply of the city was cut off and drinking water, provisions and liquid cash went out of stock. Chennai was also cut off from outside world for three days due to network failure. The stores that were open ran out of stock within couple of hours.
In spite of the many hurdles, the staff and volunteers of HOPE foundation are on the road from day one, helping people with basic needs of food and clothing. Relief work in Kannaginagar, Saidapeth, Throipakkam gave some relief to the people in need however the need is huge and the life is getting miserable with on and off down pours of rain.
The flood victims have taken shelter in buildings that are under construction or community hall and do not have enough clothing to cover themselves.
The need is huge and we urge all the philanthropic partners, individuals, and corporates to come forward and help people stay warm by donating towards purchasing of the basic essential kit , comprising of a floor mat, blanket, sari and children clothing.
