The members of the Rotary Club of Ballymena(Northern Ireland) are supporting the Restart Africa charity in responding to the needs of the street children in Gilgal in Kenya. restart Africa's motto is 'Think not what you are but what you can become'. Ballymena Rotary has been involved with restart Africa over a number of years and is keen to continue with the much needed financial support.
Restart Africa started its work in 2008 in Gilgal, one of the poorest areas in the Rift Valley in Kenya. As result of near civil war there were thousands of internal refugees. The charity set about the task of raising sufficient funds to build a permanent centre which could house approximately 100 children. Although opened in 2014, there is an ongoing major challenge to raise sufficient funds to cover the ongoing costs of education, shelter and welfare for the young people.
The funds raised for this project will help cover the costs of supporting and protecting the young people who continue to be rescued from the streets of Gilgal. Funds are essential to provide the basic needs in terms of food, education and welfare for the children who are housed in the Centre.
Supporting Restart Africa helps rescue desperate homeless children from the streets of Kenya where drugs, violence and prostitution are rife. By providing a home, education, care and counselling the charity makes a real difference to the lives of the children it supports. This work is enormously valuable in providing long term life changing opportunities for hundreds of young people who would otherwise face a life of destitution.
