Since our last newsletter, we closed out 2017 and an awesome year with PIO!
Through your generosity, this was possible. Through your generosity, each day students are still able to go to school, grow up healthy, and are preparing for the future.
We can't thank you enough for supporting their dreams each and every day.
Last week, one of our Ambassadors visited PIO to see the work that we are doing together. She was amazed by the story of how PIO's Founder and Executive Director, Phymean Noun, started the school and was recognized as a CNN Top 10 Hero for her work. She spent time meeting students at PIO, helped teach Grade 7 and was inspired to help even more than before. She also helped in the presentation of awards for the winners of the PIO high school English competition,
For these students, the competition provides the opportunity for students to perfect their English skills and gain confidence in public speaking. Each student involved in the competition was chosen from the best competitors of previous rounds and prepared a 3 minute speech on a topic of their choice. One student's topic, "Why do you love English?", was especially pertinent. “I love English because it’s an international language. When I know English and can speak it correctly I will make my family situation better. I can get a good job with a high salary per month. If I know English, sometime I can go to tourist areas or abroad. I can achieve my goals..."
PIO students work hard to study and pass their exams knowing the value that an education adds to their lives. They work hard to support themselves and their families and make their futures better. We are excited to see where these students go and hope you will continue following along on this journey!
We hope you are off to a fantastic start to 2018! This is going to be a great year!
