Children provided school materials
It is summer vacation time for school children. Current school year has ended and the two months of time for the parents is also a time to find resources for the new school year. There is need for new uniforms, fresh shoes, fresh school bags, books, umbrealla, instruments box, school fees. It is always a burden at the beginning of the school year.
We are looking at providing school materials to all our summer camp children from nearby slum. We have also identified many chidlren from the district of Trivandrum through our helpline for children. We are gathering resources to support a minimum of 300 chidlren this year too.
We aknowldege gratefully the contributions in the past. We do require more resources to meet the needs for the current year too..

Tricks to Address Drop out Problem

chenda classes
Sustaining children in education is increasingly becoming a challenge in Kerala society. Increasing technological advancement has created great interest in children and there is a movement towards increased use of cell phones and other electronic gadgets. Still existing old system of education does not interest chidlren as there are so many creative games, social media to occupy children. The system of education needs to be updated urgently.
We have found a new method to reduce dropouts and restore them in education. We found that children are very much interested in learning the traditional percussion instrument of Kerala named 'CHENDA'. So we identified dropped out chidlren and set up chenda classes. Due to their interest they have been very regular to these classes. Slowly we brought in a rule that those who attend school only will be given chance to learn the instrument. All the 17 children are now regularly attending school.
A special word of gratitude to our benefactors for the support provided to sustain our kids in education. Your contribtion does impact the lives of chidlren!

Sustaining Children in Education

When we work at the grassroots we understand that all the hype about 100% in the so called erudite Kerala is a myth. There are increasing numbers of school drop outs in Kerala.
Why this discrepency?
The educational system in the state is no more of interest to many chidlren. Children in this society have many more things in their life that interests them; most important among them are cell phones (games, sociel media etc), televisions, video games etc. Our system of education is still black boards, learning by rote and majority of our teachers belong to the old system. There is need to use alternative education methods making use of the latest techniques and teaching methods that interests chidlren.
We have been looking at dropout chidlren who needs to be provided with basics in leteracy, language and maths so that it is possible to bring back interest in chidlren to learn lack of which is also due to the fact that even higher grades of chidlren are not literate.
Our child helpline is always an important to identify drop out children in the district and we provide them shelter and basic education to rejuvenate them and send them back to school.
Thank you for your great supports which will indeed continue to help to susutain chidlren in education.
