Distribution of Notebooks
Trivandrum Don Bosco Veedu Society with the help of GlobalGiving donors supported 50 underprevilaged with notebooks and pens. These children are identified through our Child HELPLINE. The children belong to the district of Trivandrum, Kerala. The children were identified during the home visit by the team members. Notebooks are distributed among the needy children. Their smile and interest in studies motivated the team
The distribution were carried during the month of december, january and February. The distribution supported the children with new notebooks and pens. A student commented that her father was bedridden and her mother is an homemade and her family find it difficult to support her with materials. The timely help from Don Bosco was a reason that she continued her education.

Sustaining them in School
By Thomas PD | Director

Nandhu and Sharat are siblings and they have a dysfunctional family. Hence the children had not been to school though they are 14 and 12 years of age. It was through a tip off to our child helpline that we came to know about them. Our team reponded with a visit to their home. As there were not any reponsible adults to look after them, the children were into some bad habits like drug addiction and they were often roaming with freinds and almost never at home. After convincing the relatives both the chidlren were rescued, produced before the judicial committe and sheltered at our own home.
It was a herculian task to get them learn the basics of language and through strenuous efforts we mananged to teach them to read and write. Another equally tedious task was to get them to regular school as they were not used to a disciplined life. There were lots of 'dropping outs' and 'bringing ins'. However through sustained follow up now both of them are rather regular in school and are interested in learning.
It is always difficult to bring back children who have dropped out of regular education as often it is also due to the fact that children have lost interest in education due to lack of fundamentals in smaller classes. It is equally difficult to eudcate children who are older and who have never been to school before.
Thank you for your sustained support to get chidlren back to schools and it is education that can empower them!

New School Year Again
By PD Thomas | Director
![]()
Another Summer vacation is over and children are into the new school year. After this year's summer vacation camp we have distributed school materials including school bags, umbrella, books, instrument box and water bottles. The initial expenses to begin the school year is always difficult for the poorer section of the society.
From over 400 requests towards school materials across the district through helpline for children, we were able to provide over 220 school bags to the chidren through help recieved from different quarters. There are still many chidlren who do not have sufficient means to support themselves to go regularly to school.
As initial cost for schooling in India even in Government run schools is high including uniforms and school materials, often poorer children sometimes find it difficult to continue education. This is an area needing more resources. Thanks for your generosity!
