This year, Karam is providing Back to School kits to make virtual schooling possible for Syrian refugee communities in Turkey! Karam Families in Istanbul and Reyhanli, as well as Innovative Education students across the region, will be receiving kits full of the tools they need to succeed! Your support will not only support Karam and the activities of Karam Families, Innovative Education, and Karam Scholars programs, you will empower individuals with the dignity they deserve!
There are over 6.7 million internally displaced Syrians and a further 6.6 million refugees from this crisis. For the more than 2.5 million Syrian refugee children, education and mental health services are often inaccessible. In Turkey in 2016, for instance, 80% of Syrian refugee children were not in school. In all, only 3% of refugees pursue higher education. Without access to education, how will they be empowered to sustain themselves let alone build the future of their country?
Karam Foundation's answer: three interconnected programs offering education, guidance, community, and mental health support to Syrian refugee youth and families. Karam Families provides a monthly stipend to the most vulnerable refugee families in Turkey when they send their children back to school, Innovative Education program offers elite studios to refugee youth, and Karam Scholars provides gap funding and tuition support to students who would otherwise not be able to attend university.
With the ultimate goal of building 10,000 Leaders by 2028, the impact of these initiatives goes beyond the individuals in our programs. By instilling the values of generosity and community, the families and students use their resources to spread opportunity to others. In this way, they are able to build brighter futures for themselves, their communities, and all of humanity. By reconnecting with our shared humanity - what we have in common - we create a future where everyone has opportunity.
