5.4 million children across the world are currently confined in orphanages, even though over 80% of them are not orphans. Orphanages expose children to abuse and trauma that can last a lifetime, and millions of children in India are at risk of being put in orphanages due to poverty, trafficking and lack of community support. Our mission is to get children Back to Family by strengthening child protection systems at the national, state, and community levels to ensure children in India can thrive.

Jharkhand is at the heart of our efforts, where we are working directly with communities to prevent family separation.
Orphanages have devastating consequences for children. They deny them love. They deny them their voices. And 80% of children in them have family they could be living with. We work with local partners, governments and civil society organisations in nine countries, getting children Back to Family by dismantling orphanage-based care systems, keeping families together, reuniting them and creating new ones. Our transformation model is driving reform and laying the foundations for long-lasting change.
