SOLIDARITY ACROSS BORDERS: FROM VENEZUELA TO COLOMBIA
What began as an emergency response to support families affected by the earthquake in Venezuela soon became an even broader humanitarian effort.
Through this project, and with the support of donors and partners, the Banco de Alimentos de Bogotá mobilized 538 tons of humanitarian aid to Venezuela, bringing food and essential supplies to communities affected by the disaster.
Then, in August 10th, a powerful earthquake struck Colombia. Faced with a new emergency at home, we expanded our response while continuing our commitment to Venezuela.
Just one month after the earthquake in Colombia, we had mobilized 1,300 tons of humanitarian aid through 103 shipments, reaching 45 communities across five departments: Valle del Cauca, Chocó, Risaralda, Quindío, and Caldas.
The response included 33,665 food baskets, as well as bulk food, fruits and vegetables, milk, drinking water, hygiene kits, mattresses, blankets, diapers, school kits, and other essential supplies. Aid also reached remote rural communities and Indigenous territories, particularly in Chocó, where access remains especially challenging.
None of this would have been possible without an extraordinary network of solidarity. 40,550 people made financial contributions to support the emergency response, while 6,800 volunteers contributed nearly 36,000 hours of work receiving, sorting, and packing donations.
Throughout both emergencies, Banco de Alimentos de Bogotá continued its daily mission of fighting hunger, distributing approximately 85 tons of food every day through the organizations we serve.
