Challenge

The medical staff has to receive regular monthly remuneration. It is the only outpatient clinic (after 2 clinics closed) servicing 9 nearby villages, approximately 14,000 population free of charge. The annual fundraising runs short to sustain the annual operating cost of the clinic. Also, medical supplies have to be replenished, which are purchased from Iran or Pakistan, that provide least price and delivery cost. At present the project needs continuous donations to keep it going.

Solution

The project provides initial preventive health care, first aid and birth control orientation to the villagers. There is high infant mortality because of continued armed conflict it is difficult to obtain basic health services -- remote villages remain inaccessible to international aid organizations due to security concern. The Moshwani outpatient clinic is run by local medical staff is for now the viable solution to providing health care in these remote villages.

Long-Term Impact

Long-term goal is for the clinic to increase its daily patients to 200/day (now it is at 80) by expanding its reach to more children for preventive care, provide training workshops on midwifery to reduce birth mortality, and conduct regular lectures in health and dietary habits.
