Ayapel garbage-free. Recycling & swamp protection

As part of our mission to promote environmental sustainability and the well-being of communities surrounding the Ayapel Marsh, this year CorpoAyapel established a valuable partnership with Corona, aimed at strengthening our Eco Store and encouraging the community to adopt responsible recycling habits.

Thanks to this collaboration, we have improved our capacity to collect and exchange recyclable materials, fostering greater community participation. To date, we have collected 12 tons of recyclable material, a significant achievement in reducing waste that could otherwise end up polluting the marsh. This result reflects a shared commitment to protecting the ecosystem and promoting a circular economy that benefits both the environment and local families.

Understanding the importance of ensuring food security for the most vulnerable communities, CorpoAyapel allocated part of these resources to the purchase of non-perishable food items, with the goal of helping families in need secure at least one daily meal. This initiative complements our environmental work with a social response to the region’s pressing needs.

Through these integrated actions, we not only promote recycling as a daily habit, but also strengthen community ties, generating well-being and dignity for those who need it most.

En el marco de nuestra misión de promover la sostenibilidad ambiental y el bienestar social de las comunidades ribereñas de la Ciénaga de Ayapel, desde CorpoAyapel hemos establecido durante el presente año una valiosa alianza con la empresa Corona, con el propósito de fortalecer nuestro Eco Almacén y continuar motivando a la comunidad a adoptar hábitos responsables de reciclaje.

Gracias a esta colaboración, hemos podido mejorar nuestra capacidad de acopio y canje de materiales reciclables, incentivando una participación más activa de la comunidad. A la fecha, hemos logrado recolectar 12 toneladas de material reciclable, lo que representa un avance significativo en la reducción de residuos que podrían terminar contaminando la ciénaga. Este resultado refleja el compromiso colectivo con la protección del ecosistema y con una economía circular que beneficia tanto al medio ambiente como a las familias participantes.

Reconociendo también la importancia de garantizar la seguridad alimentaria de las comunidades más vulnerables, desde CorpoAyapel destinamos parte de estos recursos a la adquisición de alimentos no perecederos, con el objetivo de asegurar que las familias con mayores necesidades puedan contar al menos con un alimento digno al día. Esta acción busca complementar nuestro enfoque ambiental con una respuesta solidaria a las realidades sociales del territorio.

Con estas acciones integradas, no solo promovemos el reciclaje como práctica cotidiana, sino que también fortalecemos el tejido comunitario, generando bienestar y dignidad para quienes más lo necesitan.

1. Introduction

Since 2020, with our "Ayapel Sin Basura" project, we have worked tirelessly to reduce pollution in the region and promote a culture of recycling. In 2021, we decided to merge this effort with our circular economy project, "Eco Almacén," recognizing that it was not only necessary to collect waste but also to raise awareness in the community about its environmental impact.

With this approach, we moved away from a welfare model and adopted a sustainable strategy focused on education and community involvement. This has allowed us to empower the people of Ayapel, helping them understand the importance of recycling, ecosystem conservation, and preventing environmental disasters in the Ciénaga de Ayapel.

2. Implementation of Circular Economy

The Eco Almacén has become a key pillar of the project, benefiting the community with in-kind donations we receive from benefactors. The community participates by bringing recycling, which we weigh, and in exchange, they receive an "Eco Bono." With this bono, they can exchange it for products such as clothing, footwear, accessories, household items, and even non-perishable food, contributing to the fight against hunger in our region.

This initiative has helped residents understand that if waste reaches the Ciénaga de Ayapel, it negatively impacts biodiversity and their quality of life.

3. Project Results

From 2020 to 2024, we have collected 109.3 tons of recyclable material, preventing these waste materials from contaminating other local ecosystems. In 2024, we have distributed 16,782 essential products, benefiting the community and contributing to the well-being of all.

En 2021, decidimos fusionar este esfuerzo con nuestro proyecto de economía circular, "Eco Almacén", reconociendo que no solo era necesario recolectar residuos, sino también concienciar a la comunidad sobre su impacto ambiental.

El Eco Almacén se ha convertido en un pilar fundamental del proyecto, beneficiando a la comunidad con las donaciones en especie que recibimos de los benefactores. La comunidad participa llevando reciclaje, que pesamos y a cambio reciben un 'Eco Bono'. Con este bono, pueden intercambiarlo por productos como ropa, calzado, accesorios, artículos para el hogar e incluso alimentos no perecederos, contribuyendo a combatir el hambre en nuestra región.

Esta iniciativa ha ayudado a los residentes a comprender que, si los desechos llegan a la Ciénaga de Ayapel, impactan negativamente la biodiversidad y su calidad de vida.

3. Resultados del proyecto
