Protect Nevada's Fish Springs Wild Horses

By AWHC Development Team | AWHC Development Team

The Fish Springs acquisition has allowed us to create the Fish Springs Conservation Area that protects key water sources for the Fish Springs wild horses as well as an entire creek watershed that sustains hundreds of plant and animal species. Importantly, this first-of-its-kind project is also creating a model for habitat preservation to enhance the welfare and security of federally-protected wild horses living on public lands. It also positions AWHC as an important stakeholder in decisions about the future of the Fish Springs wild horses and a collaborative partner with government, neighboring landowners and local businesses for land preservation and ecotourism initiatives.

In 2024, we progressed our pilot project, protecting 3,300 acres of prime wildlife habitat in northern Nevada, home to the beloved Fish Springs herd. We secured vital water and grazing rights, enhanced water sources, and developed plans to cultivate native grasses, helping to restore fire-impacted areas. Experts will help us restore an abundant, rare wet meadow on the property, essential for ecosystem sustainability.
