Even Wild Animals Need Home Improvements

Old appearance of owl enclosure

Happy New Year everyone! At AWARE we experienced some "out with the old, in with the new" as needed updates were provided to the enclosure for our great-horned owls, Owlscar the Grouch and Lady Owl Capone. Owlscar is a bit of a rascal when it comes to his enclosure--he always seems to be looking for ways to get into trouble. Recently, he decided he wanted to "play" with the netting surrounding his enclosure, which was not safe for him and could risk him getting injured or breaking his feathers. Of course, most of our other education Ambassadors don't really pay attention to the netting, which is supposed to protect their feathers from damage.

Thanks to a generous gift from two supporters, updates to the enclosure were able to be performed fairly quickly. These renovations are some of the types of updates that need to be performed regularly on all enclosures for all of our Ambassador animals to keep them sturdy and safe. Before we perform these updates, extensive research is done and discussions among volunteers and staff occur to ensure that we are performing the best updates we can while spending supporter dollars wisely and efficiently. Luckily, we have some very talented volunteers and staff who are able to contribute their expertise to creating designs, seeking material donations, and completing the projects. We hope this gives you--our supporters--some insight into how some of your money donated to "Care for AWARE's Ambassador Animals" will be spent.

Thanks again and we wish you and yours a wonderful new year!

Sincerely, Dr. Tarah
