Caring for our ambassador animals during the coronavirus crisis has been a challenge. We've cut down to just two staff and one outdoor-only volunteer at a time, which has reduced the risk of exposure but increased the amount of work each team member has to get done in a day. At times, our Director of Animal Care has come in for an overnight shift, where she does supplementary work at 2am in order to get it done w/o exposing herself to the rest of the staff.
Fortunately, the animals seem to be adjusting just fine. They are generally amenable to whatever feeding schedule we settle on, perhaps because their feeding in the wild would be intermittent and unpredictable. They still get enrichment activities each day to keep them happy and comfortable, and we look forward to the time when they can return to educating the public up close.
