The first season of Nubian vault construction in Zambia has proved to be a success:
- three houses completed, 2 in the village of Mutakwa, 1 in Kalola Z(see photos)
- our first two Zambian masons in training (Christopher and Jaspan) have recruited four more apprentices (Derrick, Johnatan, Reagan, and Woussou);
- and there are at least 20 families now on the waiting list for NV houses next season, which starts at the end of the rains in May 2011.
AVN is now actively seeking funding to scale up the program regionally in Chibombo District over the next three years. The plan is to open 7 Pilot village Deployment Programs (PVDPs) between now and 2013. The first step, in 2011, will be to send a project manager and two experienced NV masons from Burkina Faso to Zambia to train Zambian counterparts during the construction season, and to recruit more apprentices.
Any help and sponsorship you can provide will be really welcomed by the village families who will benefit from decent, safe, sustainable housing as a result of the AVN program.
