Deadly and destructive flooding swept through Auckland, New Zealand's most populated city, on January 27, 2023 after record-breaking rainfall. A local state of emergency has been declared. Thousands of calls for help were received by disaster responders as homes have been flooded, roads washed out, and power outages reported. Your donation will go to vetted nonprofits on the front lines of response and recovery.
In one day, Auckland received nearly all the rainfall it normally expects in a summer, causing unprecedented flooding. People have been displaced from their homes and businesses and emergency services have been overwhelmed. Aucklanders will confront the damage from this flooding for months to come. Based on our experience, GlobalGiving has learned that it is vital to get funds to locally-led nonprofits that can respond to community needs in both the short and long-term.
All donations to the Auckland New Zealand Flood Relief Fund will support flood relief and recovery efforts in Auckland. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs emerge, we will support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the impacted area.
